There are thousands of different kinds of wood, each with subtle character and working properties which make it special.

Choosing the right wood for a particular design can make the difference between success and failure.

I only wish I could include them all. Bloodwood, Cocobolo Rosewood, Pink Ivory wood, Zebrawood...

Carpethian Elm Burl - Highly prized cause it's drop-dead Gorgeous!

Black Cherry -Yes, It's nice, but a bit over-rated.   It will darken severly over time, so you must design with that in mind.

Curly Maple - can be overwhelming, use with care.

Cypress is great for outdoor projects - Very decay resistant

East Indian Rosewood - The real thing is hard to find these days.   Can you imagine why?  BEAUTIFUL!

Your run-of-the-mill Mahogany. Great for many things, can get boring after a while

Knotty pine - Your house is built with this stuff. Must we see it in your furniture, too? Country, Schmuntry. This stuff is UGLY!

Maple - Hard maple is white and clean, little figure or depth, but often the right choice.

Sapele is the wood, the figure is known as "mottled".

Olive Ash Burl - You'll only find this in veneer; this specimen does not reflect the true glory of a fine specimen.

Red Oak - Common, over-used, not a bad wood but let's give it a rest, huh?

Red Birch - Great when you can't afford Cherry. Patinas to a richer brown, a fine choice for cabinets or furniture.

Pau Ferro - Another stunning rosewood.  Gotta Love it. The picture is small 'cause it's hard to get! (hahahahah)

Sapele - Also known as African Mahogany. A very classy look with some ribbon stripe figure

Teak - Honestly, really expensive and not too attractive.  VERY decay resistant. Many marine uses.
